Mophie has been a popular choice for iPhone battery packs, but there haven’t been any options for people who wanted to expand their storage capacity. Now available for the iPhone 5 and 5s, the Space Pack takes Mophie’s well-designed charging cases and adds 16GB of flash storage for $149.99; 32GB for $179.99; or 64GB for $249.99.
The exterior is made of rubberized plastic which is pleasant to touch and visually pleasing. It comes in black, gold, white and red with black bordering, providing more grip than the iPhone but also much more bulk. Content is streamed from Mophie’s storage to the iPhone through a lightning connector.
Unfortunately, the extra GB you get is not accessible through iOS, so you will have to access your files through Mophie’s Space app. The app is easy to use and neatly organizes your files into music, photos, videos, etc. Remember that this is not part of your iPhone’s storage, so you cannot install apps onto the device or access music files from iTunes.
The Space Pack also has a 1,700 mAh battery that will give an iPhone 5s an extra 8 hours of battery life. Four adjacent LEDs show how much energy the Space Pack has left, and a power switch activates the charge when you need it.
While the bulk is not aesthetically pleasing, and the separate storage drives are inconvenient, the Mophie Space Pack is a lifesaver for those who need to access more gigabytes without upgrading their phone. Learn more at Mophie.com.
