Stay in New Jersey, Play in New York

Tips / Travel

When visiting the Big Apple, many people choose to stay outside of the city limits. New Jersey is less than an hour from the heart of Times Square but costs a fraction of the price of a Manhattan hotel.

The New Jersey Transit trains provide easy access to Penn Station or Grand Central Station. Purchase tickets in sets of 10 for convenience or per trip. A few minutes on the train could save you more than $100 and provide a respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown New York.

Popular cities include Newark, Fort Lee, Jersey City, Weehawken, Hoboken and Paramus. These cities can be destinations in themselves. They are easily connected to New York City through public transportation and most are less than a 20-mile drive to midtown Manhattan.

Be wary of toll fees if you plan to drive into the city — prices can cost more than $14 each way — and nearly cancel out your savings. Public transportation will provide you with the best bang for your buck and take the stress of driving and parking out of your time in the city. Use the MTA Subway and buses to navigate Manhattan.

Enjoy your hotel savings and experience a new city on your next trip to NYC.
