Whether you’re backpacking through Europe, walking home from a night out or meeting up with a stranger for a drink, use the web-based Kitestring service to make sure you get from one destination to another safely.
The new service functions as a virtual buddy system, sending you text messages to check up on you. After registering, you enter a list of emergency contacts to your account and program your estimated time of arrival when going out. The app then sends a check-up text at the specified time; if you don’t respond when it checks your status, Kitestring alerts your emergency contacts with a custom message you set up and duress codes for added security.
If you’re running late, you can easily notify the app, extend the length of your trip and push back the check-in time. If you arrive ahead of schedule, you can notify the app and turn it off entirely by telling it “okay” once you arrive safely.
The free web-based service uses text messages, so it can be used on any type of phone that has a web browser: iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc. Visit the website to get started and give Kitestring a heads up next time you’re traveling.
