Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

After a long, dark winter many of us are ecstatic about the return of the sun. So much so we celebrate the sun, and the longest day of the year — also known as the summer solstice. This year’s solstice is June 21; check out some festivals around the world to officially bring in the summer season.

Secret Solstice Festival, Reykjavik, Iceland
Iceland’s Secret Solstice Midnight Sun Music Festival is a three-day celebration that makes good use of the extra daylight. The sun sets around midnight and sunrise is a little before 3 a.m. this time of year.

Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England
Bring in the summer solstice in a more peaceful way by marveling at the wonder of Stonehenge. Witness the sun rising above the stone circle, which aligns perfectly with the summer solstice sunrise.

Solstice in Times Square, New York City, N.Y.
Celebrate summer with sun salutations in the bustle of New York City. The city hosts a range of events, including yoga sessions where thousands of yogis from around the world gather to partake.

Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Celebration, Santa Barbara, Calif.
This California event has been a summer staple since 1974, drawing in more than 100,000 visitors with colorful floats, festive costumes and music. It has become a celebration of creative expression.

Midsummer, Stockholm, Sweden
This day is widely celebrated throughout Sweden, with one of the most popular in  Stockholm. Enjoy wildflower wreaths, flavored schnapps and maypole dancing.

Afrofest, Istria, Croatia
Afrofest brings a collection of amateur astronomers and stargazers to the astronomical Višnjan Observatory. It combines science and spirituality with New Age music, drum circles and performances.
