Surf camps are a great excuse to break the monotony of your normal travel plans, learn something new and visit an exotic seaside destination. Here are a few to consider, no matter what kind of experience you’re looking for.
Las Olas Surf Safaris
Las Olas is for women only and they’re dedicated to bringing you both a fun and leisurely experience and some amazing new surfing skills. They’ve been in business almost 20 years and have hosted hundreds of women at their villas in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The camp includes all of your meals, accommodations and activities. There’s plenty to do, but don’t feel forced to participate — it’s all about going at your own pace and having a great experience.
Chill in Ericeria Surfhouse
This Portuguese surf camp is run by a team of professional surfers, instructors and locals. The accommodations are a bit reminiscent of a very colorfully decorated hostel, with lots of common rooms, including the bathrooms, kitchen and recreational spaces. You can either stay at the surfhouse and surf on your own, or take advantage of one of their many classes. There are plenty of other activities as well, including yoga, tours and nightlife fun.
Pitstop Hill Mentawai
Pitstop Hill Mentawai is located in Indonesia and boasts some of the best waves in the world. Their camp and resort only hosts 10 guests at once, so you can be assured of individualized attention from instructors, as well as plenty of space and amenities. Lounge about in the entertainment suite, where you can find hundreds of movies and music options, or hang out at the resort bar, where you can find a myriad of international drinks, local cuisine and baked goods. This resort is not for the undecided surfer, however. Most of the daytime activities focus on surfing and you won’t find many other entertainment options unless you’re out on the water.
Pacific Surf Co.
Pacific Surf Co.’s surf camps on Vancouver Island are perfect if you’d rather attend camp during the day, then explore the area or other interests on your own the rest of the time. You can choose a two-day, three-day or five-day camp which will allow you to progressively learn to incorporate your skills, whether you’re a beginning or intermediate surfer. The lessons are for small classes and only run for three hours a day, giving you plenty of time to yourself for the rest of your vacation.
