Summer is a time for family reunions and much-needed vacations, but it can be difficult to find an activity or destination that appeals to grandma as much as it does to the little ones. Family vacations are a great way to bond and build lasting memories but a certain amount of planning is required to make sure everyone can relax and enjoy.
More and more families are opting to travel together and many resorts and destinations are catering to an all-ages crowd. Try choosing a destination that has activities built-in. Not only will this minimize travel time, but it will allow older (or teenaged) family members the luxury of sleeping in. Try renting a lake house or staying in a coastal town. More adventurous or robust families can take a camping or RV trip together.
Consider a resort or cruise. While these locations generally get written off as tourist traps, there is no getting around the fact resorts and cruises are accommodating, all-inclusive experiences that give family members the chance to choose how many activities they want to participate in.
In the end, the success of a multigenerational vacation depends on how much planning you put into it and how open everyone is about their abilities and preferences. Be sure to plan early, but don’t make it a production. After all, what matters it the time you spend together not the exact location you choose.
