Portland, Ore., is a mid-sized city with big-city appeal, especially when it comes to food. Portland is overflowing with incredible restaurants, many of which have earned respect on a national scale. But still more are doing great things without a ton of buzz — and without the associated line out the door. That makes it easy to walk into just about any restaurant and have an incredible meal.
Brunch is no exception. Here are your best bets for outstanding weekend brunches in The City of Roses.
Pine State Biscuits
With several locations around Portland, Pine State Biscuits bases its menu around big, fluffy biscuits. You can feast on biscuit sandwiches or biscuits and gravy, and wash it all down with locally roasted coffee.
Broder
The Scandinavian restaurant has two locations: Broder Nord and Café Broder, both of which craft beautiful brunch plates with Scandinavian sensibilities. Specialties include lefse (potato pancakes) and seasonal fritters.
North Light
Serving upscale comfort dishes, North Light also manages to be incredibly approachable. Standouts include the gingerbread pancakes and fry bread taco. The cocktail list is tops, too.
Tasty n Sons
This spot, along with its sibling Tasty n Alder, are definitely on the list of “discovered” restaurants. You’ll have to wait for your table, but it’s worth every minute you spend standing around. Everything is good here, from the Morroccan chicken hash to the Burmese red pork stew. Order a few maple-bacon-wrapped dates on the side.
