On Aug. 16, National Rum Day sees people across the world toast to the alcohol with rum cocktails. But what better way to celebrate the day than at a bar in the place where the drink started? Dominica’s iconic Bush Rum has become a staple across the Caribbean island, and countless bars put their own creative spins on Bush Rum to further celebrate the drink. This year, head to one of these Dominica bars to celebrate the drink:

Macoucherie Rum Distillery

Producing home-grown commercial rum since 1763, this distillery is only one of two local brands. Here, visitors can discover the secrets behind the craft through a tour of the distillery and taste the iconic drink while learning about its history.

Ruins Rock Café

Try some of Dominica’s wildest and most exotic Bush Rum concoctions at this local favorite. Ruins Rock Café’s impressive menu features an extensive rum selection with both classic and crazy flavors, making for a fun experience.

Islet View Restaurant and Bar

This local-recommended restaurant and bar is a great spot to try Bush Rum. Islet View Restaurant and Bar features more than 50 varieties of homemade rum, and guests can enjoy a cocktail while enjoying views of Dominica’s nature.

Indian River Bush Bar

Indian River Bush Bar offers both a wide variety of local Bush Rums and some of the best Rum Punch in Dominica. Many of its Bush Rums are marinated with herbs and spices or elevated with fresh, seasonal fruit juices. Try the signature Dynamite drink, too.

Batibou Beach

Head to this popular beach to try the famous coconut rum punch. This drink gives the location a reputation as one of the best bars on the island, and guests can enjoy a cocktail at the bar winter through spring.
