Walk into the Chicago Chop House and you’re immediately surrounded by a bygone era of Chicago glamour and gangsters. Hundreds of photos line the walls of the crowded brownstone, detailing the Chop House’s famous guests throughout the entirety of its existence, from politicians to criminals to movie stars. If you want to dine on the weekends or a holiday, you’ll want to get reservations, but throughout the week, you shouldn’t have a problem getting in. The first-floor dining area is accompanied by the extensive bar, as well as a baby grand piano. The music drifts up to the upstairs dining areas, which are much more intimate and great for small groups of four or five.
One of the best features of the Chicago Chop House is the incredibly skilled waitstaff, who strive to keep you comfortable and entertained throughout the entirety of your visit. On my numerous visits, I’ve never had even the smallest issue, and they always do their best to keep a lively and friendly conversation going while making sure that your every dining whim is fulfilled.
The menu offers a little something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a salad, seafood or one of the signature steaks. Their steaks are dry aged in the restaurant’s own aging box and any selection off their steak menu would be an excellent choice. They also have a variety of family-style side dishes, ranging from truffle mac ‘n’ cheese to asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The desserts, while simple, are done exceptionally well, and are the perfect ending to any of their great meals.
The Chicago Chop House is an excellent choice, whether you’re looking for a special date night, an impressive business dinner or a unique party venue.
