The biggest names in world golf come to Scotland in mid-July for the 2016 Open Championship.
The event will take place at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland from July 14–17. While it is known as the Open Championship, the event is in fact often called the British Open and is the oldest of the major golf championships in the world.
Zach Johnson won last year’s edition at St. Andrews and will likely return to defend his crown. The Open is the only one of the four majors that takes place outside the United States, but the top players always make the journey across the pond thanks to the incredible history of the event.
Royal Troon is situated on the west coast of Scotland, with easy access from Glasgow. The international airport serves more than 100 destinations, with many across North America.
Take advantage of your time in Scotland to visit some of Glasgow’s burgeoning art scene before heading off to take in the striking natural beauty of the country. If you have time, drive across the wild moors to Edinburgh, where you can visit the historic castle and old town.
The Open offers the perfect opportunity to take in a prestigious sporting event before visiting a spectacularly beautiful country. Buy your tickets from the official website, with prices starting at $105 for a day at the championships.
