Hotels

With International Women’s Month on our doorstep, it’s time to grab your best gal pals and embark on a celebratory trip, and The Eliza Jane in New Orleans is just the place.

Named after 19th-century local poet-turned-publisher Eliza Jane Nicholson, The Eliza Jane embodies the Crescent City’s long tradition of storytelling. Situated in 10 historic warehouses once important businesses in the heart of New Orleans, The Eliza Jane has inherited a storied past and unique location like no other.

Designed by architecture firm Stonehill Taylor, the hotel’s contemporary aesthetic features a mix of old and new, combining a lot of the former buildings’ original brick, masonry arches and metalwork with jewel-toned velvets; plush leather; marble accents; lush foliage; and other modern, sophisticated touches.

Indulge in a delicious meal at the hotel’s signature French Southern fusion restaurant, Couvant, or sip cocktails at The Press Room, the lobby lounge. Both the lobby lounge and hotel name are a nod to The Daily Picayune — the paper’s first female publisher was Eliza Jane Nicholson.

While there, make sure to take advantage of Happy Hour at Couvant, weekend brunch and live music in the Press Room.

Not only is the hotel a destination itself, but it’s also perfectly located to head out and explore the city. Nearby, must-do attractions include New Orleans Museum of Art, The National WWII Museum, Jackson Square, Tipitna’s and The Spotted Cat Music Club.

Study Shows More Millennials Are Cruising

A new study from Cruisebound shows more millennials are cruising, as the average age of cruisers trends downward. The study discovered the largest portion of cruisers are ages 25 to 44, making up 45 percent of all cruise bookers. Seniors, aged 55 and up, currently only account for 26 percent of cruise bookers. The platform theorizes this trend in younger cruisers is brought about by cruise lines’ increasing offering of family-friendly experiences and shorter cruises that can be enjoyed over a long weekend.
