Thompson Zihuatanejo recently announced a series of events celebrating Día de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead. This tradition honors deceased loved ones through vibrant and meaningful festivities. Guests are invited to participate in the celebration with activities such as altar building and a La Catrina sugar skeleton makeup session, both reflecting the history and significance of the Mexican holiday.
On Oct. 31, 4 to 6 p.m., guests can participate in the creation of a traditional Day of the Dead altar, or ofrenda, at Hao, the resort’s oceanfront all-day bar. During this activity, guests can contribute photos, mementos and other offerings to honor the spirit of their ancestors. Guests can also enjoy complimentary mocktails and snacks during this celebration.
The following day, Nov. 1, guests will be delighted to find a surprise complimentary Pan de Muerto in their room. Pan de Muerto is a traditional sweet bread, often shaped like bones, and symbolizes nourishment for the souls returning to visit their families.
Ceniza, Thompson Zihuatanejo’s on-site restaurant, will offer a specially curated, four-course dinner later that night. The meal highlights the rich heritage of Mexican cuisine with dishes such as Escamoles tacos, Creole cean Nacatamal, tortilla soup, confit chicken terrine and pumpkin sweet bite.
Embrace the iconic symbol of Day of the Dead by participating in a La Catrina Sugar Skeleton Makeup session on Nov. 2. Guests will be able to adorn themselves with beautiful makeup honoring La Calavera Catrina, a central figure in Day of the Dead celebrations.
Also on Nov. 2 is the Day of the Dead party, featuring a variety of traditional kermes-style foods and live music.
