The Argentinian capital offers a great blend of European and South American charms, and it doesn’t need to break the bank. Given the country’s economic struggles, the dollar will get you far more here than in other countries.
Stay in the lively Palermo neighborhood, where numerous boutique hotels can be found within easy reach of the bars and restaurants. Alternatively, look for a place on Airbnb for that home-away-from home feeling.
Time your visit to coincide with a game at one of Buenos Aires’ many soccer grounds, the most famous of which is La Bombonera, home to Boca Juniors. Get into the spirit of the day watching passionate Argentinian fans sing their hearts out for 90 minutes and marvel at the amount of flares thrown by fanatical supporters.
All of the adrenaline may well leave you feeling hungry, and no trip to Buenos Aires would be complete without a meal at La Cabrera steakhouse. Book ahead for large parties.
Now presumably full of Argentinian steak and wine, where better to continue your day than on board one of the capital’s floating casinos. The vagaries of local law mean the blackjack tables cannot be on dry land, but sufferers of seasickness need not worry, the boats are securely moored.
Hopefully buoyed by success in the casino, head back into town, grab a bite to eat and hit one of the many nightclubs. Crobar is great for techno, El Alamo is known as the local pick-up spot and La Bomba De Tiempo drum show offers something a little bit different.
