Austin’s SXSW has grown way beyond the scope of normal festivals. Follow these tips to make the most of your time there.

Make a Flexible Plan

It is literally impossible to experience everything SXSW has to offer. Pick and choose the things you want to see, but try to remain flexible for surprise events and to account for traffic. To make this easier for yourself, downloading the SXSW GO app can make a personalized schedule for you.

Think About Transport

Having a bike is a good idea to save some cash. The festival will be teaming with Austin’s B-Cycle bike-share program if you don’t want to rent one for the day, and there will also be taxis and Ubers, though pedicabs might be quicker downtown. Registrants can also get on the festival shuttles.

Bring a Day Bag

Pack the usual festival gear like a water bottle, charger, baby wipes and a paper map, as well as any gear/information you need like laptops, business cards and a change of clothes. SXSW can be as much a networking event as it is entertainment and you never know whom you might meet.

Pace Yourself

With so many things to do and people to see, it can be easy to get overwhelmed. There’s also a lot of free alcohol and free food, so pace yourself and don’t burn out early.
