The lively city of Richmond, British Colombia, is a food lover’s paradise — especially if you’re interested in authentic Asian cuisine. Richmond is home to a large Asian population, with around 44 percent claiming Chinese ancestry. In fact, Richmond boasts arguably the best Chinese cuisine this side of the Pacific.
The city is packed with restaurants and other food-related businesses; there are so many on Alexandria Road it’s been nicknamed “Food Street.” Many of the best are tucked unassumingly into strip malls.
With hundreds of dining options in Richmond, it can be overwhelming to settle on a place to eat without some sort of guidance. In reality, you almost can’t go wrong with any spot you happen upon, but here are some of the best bets:
- For Chinese, head to Golden Paramount for Cantonese-style dim sum, Golden Sichuan for face-punching spice, Bushuair Restaurant for Hunan cuisine and Top Shanghai for Chinese donuts and dumplings
- For Japanese, visit Yah Yah Ya Ramen or Kiriri for sushi and seafood
- For baked goods, aim for Kam Do, La Pattiserie, or New Town Bakery
- And if you’re worn out on Asian cuisine, the area has plenty to offer in terms of Western cuisine, including CAVU Kitchen Bar for gourmet comfort food; Smokehouse Sandwich Co. with smoked meat sandwiches; and Tramonto, for southern Italian and a view of the Fraser River
More ideas for dining in Richmond can be found on the Tourism Richmond website.
