For an efficient meal to start your day, you can’t beat a breakfast sandwich. Foodie destination New York City offers some of the tastiest options around.

Sunny & Annie’s

Sunny & Annie’s looks like any standard bodega, but don’t be fooled. The deli serves up classic meat and egg sandwiches on rolls or bagels. If you’re really hungry, try the Two Eggs sandwich with bacon, sausage, ham, cheese and a hash brown on a roll. Located in Alphabet City, the deli is open 24 hours and offers free delivery.

Black Seed Bagels

Bagels from Black Seed Bagels are baked Montreal-style — hand-rolled and wood-fired. Try one of the house-made spreads, including tofu cream cheese, horseradish cream cheese or tobiko caviar on one of the standard bagel flavors (plain, poppy seed, sesame, everything, salt, garlic, pumpernickel or multigrain). Dress it up with add-ons like red onion and avocado.

Saltie

Make your way over to Williamsburg for a sandwich from Saltie. Most of the creative sandwiches are loaded with ingredients. You can’t go wrong with the simple classic, Ship’s Biscuit. Fluffy, creamy scrambled eggs and soft ricotta meet on the house-made herbed focaccia. If you have a sweet tooth, cookies and muffins are also for sale.

Egg Shop

Boasting plenty of solid breakfast sandwich options, this eatery serves breakfast all day. Splurge on the steak and egg, featuring grass-fed tenderloin, sunny-side-up eggs, chimi chili and fresh greens on a French roll. If none of the options meet your taste, build your own breakfast sandwich from the custom egg and cheese menu.

Russ & Daughters

The expert purveyors of smoked fish recently opened a café, allowing loyal patrons the luxury of enjoying a leisurely breakfast. Ordering smoked salmon is a must. At the café, try one of the open-faced sandwich boards and put together your own breakfast on a bagel, bialy or rye or pumpernickel bread.
