Get to the bottom of the local beer scene in Boston with tours and delicious brews from the source at any and all of the following popular breweries in the area.
Samuel Adams Brewery
A perennial favorite of the New England area, Sam Adams has earned a solid reputation among many Bostonian beer drinkers, with a tour offering a lesson on the unique history of the brand, a look into the entire craft brewing process and samples of the brewery’s award-winning beers. The tour is free, but suggested donations are $2, going toward local charities. Tickets are handed out on a first arrival service.
Harpoon Brewery
Set in Boston’s Seaport District, Harpoon Brewery is a New England brewhouse staple that caters to more adventurous beer drinkers with hoppy favorites like the Harpoon IPA, as well as unique seasonal brews featuring ingredients like real Vermont maple syrup and gingerbread. Guided tours cost $5 and include a tasting of fresh Harpoon and UFO beers. After touring the facility, beer lovers can enjoy pints of freshly brewed drafts and handmade pretzels with friends at the Beer Hall, boasting great views of the city as well as the brewery and canning line.
Trillium Brewing Company
A family-owned and -operated brewery in the Fort Point Channel neighborhood of Boston, Trillium Brewing Co. features locally inspired farmhouse-style beers. Unfortunately, the brewery doesn’t offer tours at this time, but does have a tasting room where guests can taste small samples and pick up growlers. The fast-growing company just recently announced plans to build a second facility in the Canton area with 16,000 square feet of brewing potential. Between the two locations, the brewers will have a whooping approximately 10,000 barrels in annual production.
Cambridge Brewing Company
Located in Kendall Square, Cambridge Brewing Co. offers beers produced at the on-site brewery as well as delicious pub fare made with fresh local ingredients. The gastropub produces a broad spectrum of creative craft brews, from full-bodied dark porters to deep amber saisons. When the weather is warm, brew buffs can enjoy refreshing ales on a comfortable outdoor patio.
Night Shift Brewing
Situated near Boston in the town of Everett, Night Shift Brewing is making a name for itself with its tasty homemade beer flavors and comfortable rustic décor. Free brewery tours are offered every day of the week and visitors of the taproom can enjoy fresh beers on draft in flights, small tasters and full pours. Guests are welcome to enjoy the brewery’s bring-your-own-food policy or try any of the food trucks that set up shop in the taproom throughout the week.
