In operation for almost two decades, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery brews “off-centered ales for off-centered people” in the southern part of the state in the city of Milton. The always creative minds at the brewery craft a variety a unique beers in a 100,000-square-foot converted cannery, including a new carbonated concoction brewed with 25 pounds of locally made scrapple, called Beer for Breakfast. Visitors of the brewery can enjoy tours, beer sampling, bocce and cornhole, beer-infused food, pint sale, growler fills and a gallery of off-centered artists, musicians, actors and iconoclasts on the ceiling of its tasting room.
Nestled in the heart of the Brandywine Valley near the famous Longwood Gardens, the tiny Twin Lakes Brewery creates American ales and lagers using 100 percent natural ingredients. The brewery offers relaxed, informal and personalized tours and samplings of its fresh, local craft beer twice a week to guide guests through the history of its beer and brewing.
The First State is home to Fordham & Dominion Brewing Co., a merger of Fordham and Dominion Brewing that launched in 2007 and consolidated operations in 2009. The company offers behind-the-scenes tours of their production facility in Dover weekly, from its brewhouse and bottling line to kegger and packaging warehouse. Each tour starts and ends with beers and samples in its unique tasting room.
A newbie to the Delaware craft beer scene, Mispillion River Brewing opened its doors to beer lovers last year in Milford. The 5,000-square-foot facility, featuring a full-service brewery and tasting room, opened after co-owner Eric Williams grew tired of working in the corporate world. Visitors can tour the brewery on Fridays and Saturdays and sample its ever-changing draft list in the tasting room daily.
The smallest brewery in the state of Delaware is a small, family-run brewpub and pizzeria in Newark operating out of Pietro’s Pizza. The nanobrewery includes a 1.5-barrel system on-site that creates several experimental beers, ranging from ales to porters. In addition to unique brews, guests can also enjoy delicious house pies and house-made grub.
