A Mexican restaurant scene seems odd for a place like Denver, with cold winters and heavy snowfall. However, locals live and die by these restaurants and their sacred chile verde. Unlike most chiles found south of Colorado, Denver’s concoction is thicker and heartier. Some green chile diehards believe a select view dives and cantinas stand high above the rest.
Los Farolitos
While some may be turned off by the mini-mall location of Los Farolitos, once past the neon glow under the awning, patrons will find hefty platters of chunky green chile.
La Loma
Located near the South Platte River is La Loma, known as one of the more upscale Mexican establishments in the city. However, this restaurant still knows how to get down and dirty with their green chile rellenos.
Jack N Grill
Perhaps the most Americanized chile verde stop on this list, Jack N Grill isn’t afraid to add chile verde to any dish. From burgers to fries and even breakfast — this place hits every meal.
Efrains
At Efrains, simplicity is the name of the game. While neither the restaurant nor the presentation of the dishes is anything out of the ordinary, their green chili is some of the best in the greater Denver area.
The Original Chubby’s
Don’t let the name fool you — there are actually two “original” Chubby’s establishments across Denver. Further deceptions can be found in their ordinary-looking chili that is in truth some of the spiciest in town.
