Although Landmark Theatres is a chain, the Nuart Landmark is worth a visit. They program 3D, independent and avant-garde films. See a midnight screening on Friday or catch The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturdays.

Take a drive to the Echo Park Film Center, a non-profit micro-movie theater and film school. The tiny theater provides an intimate movie watching experience, dedicated to local filmmakers.

For a retro movie experience, go to the Electric Dusk Drive-in. This rooftop movie theater screens films every other week and offers both car tickets and lawn chair seating. Purchase tickets online; screenings sell out quickly.

Despite Hollywood’s looming presence, independent movie theaters are alive and well. Find your favorite theater and explore the world of independent film in Los Angeles.
