Minor league baseball is a fraction of the price of a major league ticket (especially in New England), extremely family friendly and relaxed. There is almost always a theme night, fireworks or a giveaway. And you get the chance to catch future major league stars before anyone else. Here are the best places to catch a game in New England.
McCoy Stadium
Located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, McCoy Stadium is the home of the Red Sox, the Boston Red Sox’s AAA affiliate. Without doubt, this is the big daddy of minor league stadiums in New England. The roster is stacked with current major leaguers on rehab assignments and future stars. The stadium itself is comfortable, easy and family-friendly. Kids can run the bases after every game and there are near-nightly promotions and theme nights.
New Britain Stadium at Willow Brook Park
Located in New Britain, Conn., this stadium is home to the Rock Cats, the Colorado Rockies’ AA affiliate. The team is annually among the best in the division and has seen an absurd amount of major leaguers pass through. This season will also be your last chance to see the Rock Cats or their stadium as they will move to Hartford in 2016 and be renamed the Yard Goats.
Dodd Stadium
Norwich, Conn., is home to the Detroit Tigers’ A affiliate. Dodd is a modern stadium — easy, cheap and comfortable. Plus it is down the road from Foxwoods Resort Casino.
Hadlock Field
The Red Sox’s AA team plays in Portland, Maine, and has its very own Green Monster. A perfect summer evening outing.
Northeast Delta Dental Stadium
Located in Manchester, N.H.,, on the banks of the Merrimack River, the Fisher Cats’ stadium is one of New England’s finest. The Toronto Blue Jays’ AA affiliate offers free food with the purchase of tickets.
