There’s a lot to see and do in Ontario, but some of the best are the natural wonders that dot the landscape.
Flowerpot Island
Located in Fathom Five National Marine Park, Flowerpot Island is full of unique landscape, sea slacks, caves, rare plants and even a lightstation. It gets its name from two rock formations on the eastern shore that look like pillars for flowerpots.
Niagara Falls
This is one beauty the United States shares with Canada. On the Ontario side, the Falls stand 17 stories high and around half a mile long. At night they illuminate the Falls with lights to create a pretty breathtaking array of color with accompanying fireworks.
Niagara Escarpment
The nearby Niagara Escarpment is a UNESCO World Biosphere Region thanks to its vast diversity and wildlife. You’ll fine limestone cliffs, turquoise waters at the Georgian Bay and vibrantly colored orchids that are cause for an entire festival in May.
Algonquin Park
Algonquin Park is a great example of why the maple leaf adorns the Canadian flag. It’s a long stretch of trails surrounded by maple trees, rocky formations and literally thousands of lakes. If you go in August you can take part in the Public Wolf Howl, which involves exactly that — howling at wolves.
Bonnechere Caves
Underneath Ontario lies the Bonnechere Caves, which was once a system of passages located on a tropical sea floor more than 500 million years ago. Today, you can tour the passages and see remnants of life, like octopus fossils, coral and sinkholes.
