Washington State’s long Pacific coastline runs the gamut from tough-to-reach, wild and rocky beaches to calmer, sandy stretches near quaint towns. Shi Shi Beach

Near the northwest corner of the state, Shi Shi Beach is part of Olympic National Park’s wild coastline. Tidepools abound as do otters, sea lions and bald eagles. Giant freestanding sea stacks add to the drama.

Great oceanfront campsites abound along this quiet stretch of beach, also within Olympic National Park. Rocky cliffs are dramatic here, and many people head to Hole in the Wall, a towering monolith carved by waves.

Second & Third Beach

Also within Olympic National Park, these beaches near Forks are accessible after walking a short distance through coastal rainforest. They’re excellent beach-combing spots and also offer views of dramatic sea stacks.

Long Beach

In southwest Washington, near the Oregon border, Long Beach is wide and flat, perfect for sandcastles, long jogs and kite flying. It’s also legal to drive on the beach, and many visitors go horseback riding too.
