New Brunswick offers a bevy of delicious eats. Looking for some of the best? Here are some favorites to add to your itinerary next time you visit.
1. 11th Mile
In Fredericton, this adorable restaurant offers modern Canadian cuisine and a craft cocktail menu. Each dish and cocktail, created by a husband-and-wife duo, reflects their impressive past experience in the food biz. Expect a limited, ever-changing menu, including items like gnocchi in a pork and fennel ragu or seared tuna with soy ginger sauce and green rice.
In Moncton, this restaurant sits within a reclaimed historic school that’s also an arts hub. The small, 40-seat restaurant offers French bistro-style eats inspired by French, Acadian and other cuisines. Be sure to make reservations and expect a seasonal menu, including dishes ranging from beef tenderloin tartare served with house fries to flank steak with Brussels sprouts and green peppercorn sauce.
In Caraquet, Origines: Cuisine Maritime offers small plates and a great view, as the dining room overlooks the ocean. The tasting menu changes regularly, but can include a range of fine-dining-style options, incorporating local ingredients.
In Bathurst, Fresco Kitchen takes regional fare and gives it a bit of an upgrade, so you can feel like you’re having an elegant dining experience, while still sampling the local eats. The menu is small, but expect familiar dishes that won’t be inaccessible to the fine-dining averse, such as shrimp and risotto or braised pork belly.
5. Clos
Clos offers an á la carte menu, tasting menu and wine pairings, but, however you dine here, you’re sure to love the gorgeously presented plates. The small menu includes a few small plate options and entrees, as well as tempting desserts.
