Top 5: Hiking Trails in the Angeles National Forest

Los Angeles is known as the city of dreams but a few thousand feet above the pavement, you’ll find another dream world. The Angeles National Forest is an expansive stretch of land not far from the heart of the city. The trails offer something for everyone but these five trails are a great place to start.

 

Hermit Falls

Hermit Falls is a scenic escape from the city. This roughly 2.5-mile hike offers a lovely view of the 30-foot Hermit Falls where many people swim and cliff jump.

Icehouse Canyon Road

Icehouse Canyon Road is a more difficult hike, so plan to start early and end late. This tree-laden hike is ideal for autumn when you can see some of the only foliage in Southern California.

 

Thunder Mountain

Visit Thunder Mountain for a difficult long hike with stunning views. This trail snakes around a rocky mountain face.

Devil’s Punchbowl

Devil’s Punchbowl is an amazing site near the San Andreas Fault. Hike to the top of Devil’s Chair for stunning views of the area.

 

Mount Wilson

Mount Wilson is one of the most well-known mountains in Southern California and home to the majority of the area’s radio and satellite towers. Despite this, it makes for a beautiful all-day hike.
