Manama, Bahrain, is a beautiful city with tons of unique architecture and sights to see. If you’re short on time and can only fit in a few, here are the best places to make a pit stop when you’re in the city.
Qalat al Bahrain
This ancient fort has changed hands so many times it’s hard to keep track of who owns it and who doesn’t. It spent much of its time under control of the Portuguese, but was also owned by the Persians and various Arabic tribes throughout times. It’s a great historical site and a wonderful way to view the Manama skyline from a distance.
Al-Fateh Mosque
The Grand Mosque of Manama is an architectural splendor that juts out from the skyline and can be seen from far away. When you’re visiting, be prepared to don a few extra layers of clothing per Muslim tradition.
Bahrain National Museum
The Bahrain National Museum holds a collection that spans backward 4,000 years. You’ll find halls of traditional handcrafted tools and decorations, burial mounds, war relics and historical manuscripts.
Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park
After spending a few hours in the hot desert sun, you’ll be desperately craving a way to cool off. The Lost Paradise of Dilmun is a fantastic water park with some pretty enormous waterslides and games to help get you through the day.
Tree of Life
This sacred landmark is considered one of the country’s most cherished spots. It’s just a lonely tree in the middle of the desert that probably shouldn’t be growing there, but locals and visitors feel it puts them closer to God.
