A recent study conducted by luxury bedsheet brand Onebed revealed the best airports around the world for resting during layovers and delays. Airports were ranked according to key factors including total passenger traffic, airport size and availability of dedicated resting areas. Based on these factors, each airport was given an overall score for sleepability.
The top 10 airports for resting during layovers and delays are:
- Seoul Incheon International Airport
- Soekarno–Hatta International Airport
- Frankfurt Airport
- Orlando International Airport
- Suvarnabhumi Airport
- Beijing Capital International Airport
- Chengdu Tianfu International Airport
- Toronto Pearson International Airport
- Istanbul Airport
- Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Seoul Incheon International Airport took the top spot, due in part to its low passenger density compared to the airport’s size in acres.
“Travelers today are increasingly looking for comfort and convenience during long layovers or unexpected delays, and airports are responding with better amenities to help people get some rest. What really stands out is the effort some airports, like Seoul Incheon and Chengdu Tianfu, are making to create restful spaces, whether through low passenger density or dedicated nap areas. It’s great to see airports providing more than just a place to wait, but offering a truly relaxing experience that makes a big difference during a journey,” said Dylan Tollemache, co-founder and CEO, Onebed.
The study compared 47 global airports on a weighted scoring system using data sourced from various resources. SleepingInAirports.net provided data on sleepability and free dedicated resting areas. Wikipedia provided information on total passenger traffic.
