Comprised of three islands, each with unique offerings, the Caymans are an idyllic Caribbean escape. Grand Cayman, the largest, is known for beach resorts and snorkeling sites; Cayman Brac is a popular launch point for deep-sea fishing; and Little Cayman is home to diverse plant and wildlife.
For nature lovers, the Mastic Trail is a great way to spend a couple hours. The trail is a 200-year-old path, winding through mangrove swamps, woodlands and an array of rare and colorful flora and fauna. The trail is free if you go it alone, and tours are available for $30 through the Cayman Islands National Trust.
If you’re traveling somewhere tropical, chances are you’re a fan of the sand. Often lauded as a Caribbean best, Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman is truly stunning. The crescent-shaped coast offers soft coral sand, calm waves and clear water, ideal for snorkeling. There are several large resorts along the beach, but there are plenty of less-crowded areas as well.
Head south from Seven Mile Beach to Eden Rock and Devil’s Grotto, two of the most popular diving sites on Grand Cayman, filled with rare fish and beautiful coral, and perfectly accessible for beginner and intermediate snorkelers.
For more aquatic adventure, venture to Little Cayman to Bloody Bay Marine Reserve, and explore wreck sites and the Bloody Bay Wall, or head to Southern Cross Club for diving and dishing. The island is also home to the Booby Pond Nature Reserve, a breeding colony of red-footed boobies and frigate birds.
Escape the Grand Cayman cruise crowds and head to East End, a slower-paced area where you’ll find authentic island food, secluded beaches, untouched dive sites and Rum Point, a laidback cove with hammocks and volleyball nets.
