Anyone who has ever tried to pack a necktie in their luggage knows what a traumatic experience it can be. The ties are often squished by the contents of the suitcase and end up with near-permanent wrinkles and creases. For regular business travelers, a reliable tie case can be a much-appreciated savior. While perhaps not the best option for the economical consumer, for those looking to spend a bit extra for a quality tie case, Ghurka is a brand with which to become familiar. Named after the leather-adjourned Himalayan Ghurka soldiers of the early 20th century, this 40-year-old manufacturer is known for their timeless accessories. The leather of their tie cases, much like their famous duffle bags and knapsacks, ages slowly, each crack adding a new dimension of character.
The Ghurka Tie Case No. 95 ($350) opens to two leather-strapped sides, each holding three to four ties. The interior is lined with a plaid check design with brass snap buttons, while the exterior is crafted from fine chestnut leather featuring the signature Ghurka crest engraving. The simple, sleek, 5.75-inch by-16-inch design, unlike other bulky models, is not much larger than the size of a single tie.
