The 2019 Colors of Travel Study, created by Visit Carlsbad and the Pantone Color Institute, looks at trending colors in inspirational travel photos across social media. According to the study, this year’s trending travel colors are PANTONE 16-1522 Rose Dawn, PANTONE 15-4323 Ethereal Blue, PANTONE 19-4535 Ocean Depths and PANTONE 16-0948 Harvest Gold.

The study looked at 75 Instagram influencers with followings of 50,000 or greater, and those influencers’ photos with the most engagement. The images were analyzed to determine the colors they had most in common.

“Color has always been a part of why we travel. The desire to ‘see’ a new place is rooted in a mental image we’ve already conjured: we are drawn to land & cityscapes that look drastically different to our own. Instagram’s influence over people’s travel decisions is incredibly dominant,” said Grace Murray, vice president, Fohr, the quantitative influencer marketing platform. “Using a quantitative analysis approach, we discovered that the current trending, appealing, and engaging hues in inspiration travel photos are much more grounded, calming and muted compared to the vibrant hues from a similar study last year.”

Based on the study’s findings, Visit Carlsbad put together a selection of experiences for travelers that feature some of the most-liked and most inspiring hues. Colorful dining options are found at Jeune et Jolie, Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa, Park 101 and Cape Rey Carlsbad. Wellness experiences including multicolored ingredients are available at Cape Rey Carlsbad, The Spa at Omni La Costa and Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa.
