No one can argue that any sort of traveling, whether abroad or at home, alone or with friends, is an excellent opportunity to learn something. You can learn a new language, a new skill or a new way of thinking. If you feel like you’ve developed your language or cultural knowledge well enough, you can even turn that knowledge you’ve picked up into cash.
Udemy.com is a service that allows more than 5 million users around the world to access classes taught by average people who happen to be skilled in some sort of specialty. Classes range from cooking techniques to yoga to languages to career-building skills to step-by-step tech classes. Teaching is absolutely free and you set the price for your class, gaining 50 to 100 percent of the profits, dependent upon your usage of Udemy’s provided marketing tools. Some popular classes include Creating Responsive Web Design, with 34,000 people enrolled, and Speed Reading & Advanced Memory, with 22,000 people enrolled, both priced at around $150.
The only requirements for teaching a class is that your content be on point and worthwhile. Udemy asks all video be shot in HD with good lighting and framing, which can be shot with something as accessible as a web camera and that the sound is free from any background noise or echoes. They also ask that the entirety of the course be 60 percent video and that all lessons be between two and 20 minutes long.
Udemy streamlined the entire process and offers incredibly helpful instructions along the way, so that in the end, you have a well put-together, organized class that’s ready for the public. They suggest you market your class through your own social media or blog, if you have one, but also offer to market your class for you if you reach certain goals, such as publishing your first class within 30 days of signing up as an instructor.
Whether you want to teach users how to speak conversational French, build their own travel blog or cook traditional Vietnamese cuisine, the choices are endless and so is the money-making potential!
