France plays host to the 2016 edition of the European football championships, which pits the top 24 teams from across the continent against each other.
The competition has expanded from the 16 teams of previous years, affording visitors the opportunity to see even more football. The 2016 competition will also be the last held in one country, before UEFA shares the matches between multiple hosts from 2020 onward. As a result, football fans should take advantage of the concentration of matches to pack in as much international football as they can.
Euro 2016 will run from June 10 to July 10, with games played at 10 venues across the country. Hosts France will kick off against Romania at the Stade de France in Paris, where the final will also be held.
Two-time defending champions Spain look set for a strong campaign, while England´s flawless qualifying campaign could set them up for a strong challenge. Belgium is currently enjoying something of a golden generation and could cause problems for the bigger names, while the Netherlands will be notable by their absence.
As the most visited country in the world, France boasts impeccable tourist infrastructure and a plethora of attractions. Aside from the football, don´t forget to take in some of the country´s world famous food and wine, fashion and culture.
Add to that the carnival atmosphere of a major sporting event and France looks like the place to be in summer 2016, even if football isn’t your favorite sport.
