Lately, more and more airlines are offering some sort of in-flight entertainment, even on short-haul routes. They may offer a seatback screen with free movies and television or the ability to download an app and watch free entertainment on your smartphone, tablet or computer.
But some airlines are holding out and others simply don’t offer much appeal in their selection. Or, perhaps there’s a binge-worthy Netflix series you’re dying to indulge in as you fly.
As of the end of November, Netflix now allows subscribers to download content for viewing later without an internet connection. It’s an ideal solution for flying, as most airplane internet connections are too slow to allow for live streaming.
“To get offline downloads, just update your iOS, Android, or Amazon FireOS app. Once you get the updated app, you can select ‘Available for Download’ from the Netflix menu from your mobile device to see the entire collection of downloadable content,” reports Wired.
There are two downsides: Most of the available content is Netflix originals; while these are often outstanding and popular, it certainly doesn’t offer you the option to download anything from the catalog. And the movies and shows take up a lot of space; you’ll have to free up your memory before starting to download.
