Start your day on the north side of the island with coffee and pastries at El Goloso de Cotillo. Each are just a few dollars and you’ll find amazing fruit, custard, chocolate and nut tarts and breads alongside frothy cappuccinos and espressos.
Fuerteventura offers some amazing natural settings that you’ll want to check out for yourself. There are government-constructed hiking trails all around the island and you can hike from the north to the south shore with ease. If you’d rather be shown around by a guide than explore the land on your own, consider the Fuerteventura Grand Tour, which takes you all around the island, from inland traditional goat farms and the former capital to the mountains and the shore. Tickets are $39 per person.
Grab lunch or dinner at Restaurante Avenida, a popular restaurant that serves traditional Spanish fare for affordable prices. Most meals will run you around $15. Look forward to paella, roasted lamb, all the seafood you can eat and plenty of drinks.
Casa Santa Maria is a beautiful testament to the history of Fuerteventura. At this renovated 17th-century farmhouse, you can watch traditional handicrafts being made, such as baskets, fabrics and rugs; visit a museum featuring agricultural tools from the island; view a nature photography exhibit by local artists; and participate in the process of cheese production. Catch an early dinner at Casa Santa Maria’s on-site restaurant, which has won multiple awards. Dinner with drinks will be about $20–25.
Fuerteventura has been named a Starlight Reserve, a location where the natural light and clarity of the sky have remained intact, free from the negative influences of light and air pollution. Make sure to stop and enjoy the gorgeous night skies and views of the stars before heading back to your accommodations.
