Located in southern Spain, Granada is a dynamic city with Arabic influences. This is most readily seen in the architecture of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Alhambra. Take a tour of the striking 9th century fortress. Reserve your tickets in advance. Admission costs about $25.
Granada boasts many kiosks selling delicious pastries and breads. Stop by one of these panaderias for breakfast and grab a tasty pastry for about $3.
Be sure to take a siesta during the middle part of the day so you can stay out late with the rest of the locals. Many businesses and restaurants close during this time (anywhere from 2–5 p.m.).
Escape the heat and sample a cup or cone of gelato from Los Italianos. There is often a line at this gelateria, but it’s worth the wait for a scoop of the creamy treat. Pistachio is a standout. Spend about $3.
Tapas bars are aplenty in Granada. Try La Gran Taberna for delicious traditional tapas. A drink costs about $3.
Flamenco is a popular tradition in Granada. Take in a show and dinner at Venta Del Gallo for $30. Ticket price includes transportation, dinner and the traditional flamenco performance.
To experience the local nightlife, visit Granada Diez. This discotheque is popular among tourists and locals. A night of drinks and dancing costs about $15. Keep in mind: Granada Diez is most lively after midnight, when most locals start their evening.
