Keep walking to a minimum in the high altitude city of La Paz, which lies around 3,500 meters above sea level.
After a quick breakfast at traveler hub Café del Mundo ($7), take the cable car ($0.50) to the bustling market of El Hato, which affords great views over the city.
Haggle for souvenirs or simply take in the atmosphere of the market before making your way back down to the center of La Paz, walking through the famous witches market. You might not fancy buying llama fetuses or any other items used in traditional ceremonies, but you will find plenty of other interesting souvenirs ($15) and eventually reach an interesting museum.
The Coca Museum ($1.50) tells the story of the coca leaf, which is a huge part of indigenous Bolivian culture and which has sadly been put to more nefarious uses as the base ingredient of cocaine.
Stop for a bite to eat at La Cueva ($10), an atmospheric Mexican joint offering all of the favorites in a relaxed setting.
Loop round and head over to Plaza Murillo, where you will find certain government buildings and the La Paz cathedral. Head down to the wealthier part of town in the south, and treat yourself to dinner at Gustu ($40), which is run by Claus Meyer of Noma fame.
Make your way back north for a night out at Traffic, (entrance $7, drinks $5) where you can dance until the early hours.
