England is home to one of the most expensive cities in the world. However, outside of London, travelers will find charming, quaint and less-expensive, but just as active towns to add to their agendas. Case and point: Manchester. Located approximately 200 miles northwest of London, the second-largest urban area in England has made a name for itself among England’s must-visit cities.

Kick off your day at Café Smithy, a classic English café with coffees and various breakfast pastries. Nab a breakfast for under $10.

To take in some of the city’s most pleasant scenery, rent a bicycle and navigate the paths along the Bridgewater Canal. Bike rentals start at $8 per hour for mountain bikes and $14 per hour for road bikes.

When lunchtime arrives, head out to Ramsbottom to visit Eagle and Child, a truly English eatery with small plates from $8, large plates from $16, pots and pies and English ale from the tap.

At dinner time, visit Curry Mile for a plethora of international cuisine options like Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and other Asian restaurants.

Tickets to see a Manchester United football match might be pricey, but catching a match at a local pub is free, not including the price of a pint, of course. Finding a pub that is airing the events on television will not be difficult; just make sure to root for the lads in red!
