Nuuk, Greenland, is the cultural and political heart of the country, being the capital city and all, but exploring it on a budget isn’t the easiest endeavor. You’ll have to pinch a few pennies, but you can certainly have an enjoyable time as you stroll along the streets.
For starters, we’re just going to go ahead and tell you to have a light breakfast from the grocery store. You can find some eggs and toast for less than $5.

Begin your day at the National Museum to discover artifacts of Greenland, a little history of the region and lot of mummies! It’s an educational experience and will give you a good idea of what to expect during your travels around the country. Best of all, admission is free.
Your next destination should be the Nuuk Cathedral, otherwise known as the Church of Our Savior. Even if you’re not religious it’s still a unique piece of architecture to examine and pillar of the community. Large groups gather here on Sundays.

For lunch, have a quick stop by Sarfalik, known mostly for its fresh fish dishes. It’s a great place to stop in the middle of the day to relax and get a feel for authentic Greenlandic foods. A meal here should cost roughly $20 to $30 per person.
Walk off a hearty lunch by strolling through the Old Harbor area of town and take in the sights of the houses. The architecture here might not be the most spectacular look in the world, but it does have a charming appeal.

Finally, head to the Katuaq Cultural Center. The cinema here hosts different exhibits and shows as well as local artwork. Entrance is roughly $10.
Once you’re done sightseeing you’ll need a big meal to fill you back up. A Hereford Beefstouw is one of the most popular restaurants in town and a great place to try something you probably haven’t had before — reindeer meat. Once you’ve scarfed down a portion, feel free to call it a night or simply walk around town and mingle with locals. A meal at this restaurant will cost you around $30.
