The Scandinavian country of Norway is not the cheapest place you will ever visit in your life, but it is indeed possible to walk (or fly) away without an empty wallet. For $100 or less, you can make the most of your time in Norway’s capital and largest city, Oslo.
For fans of winter sports, check out the Holmenkollen Ski Museum in downtown Oslo. General Admission is around $15, with student tickets at about $13. The museum features the oldest ski jump in the world, as well as information about more than 4,000 years of skiing history.
If you’re lucky enough to be in Oslo when it is warm enough to go outside, Vigeland Sculpture Park will not disappoint. This free collection of outdoor sculptures combines horticulture and art for an aesthetically pleasing view.
At lunchtime, grab some delicious Norwegian cuisine at Asylet. This neighborhood cafe occupies Oslo’s oldest wooden house, dating back to 1730.
For $7 per student and $13 per adult, you can get a tour of the Opera House in Bjørvika, one of the oldest opera houses in the world. For fans of classic musical theater, this is an excellent tour. For others, the view from the rooftop of the Opera House is worthwhile enough.
There are dinner options for every palate in Oslo. One unique restaurant is Brasserie Paleo, a low-carb restaurant built on the Paleo diet. Try traditional options such as Norwegian Duck or Wild Turbot. When in Norway, do as the Norwegians do!
