Europe

Pau is a charming mountain town that’s home to a university. Truthfully, there isn’t much happening here, but it is a great place to relax and enjoy the views offered by the Pyrenees at its backdoor.

Mornings in Pau should always begin at Creperie Aux Delices de Marie, a crepe breakfast nook with a wide selection of ingredients for you to choose from. The prices are slightly high for a breakfast restaurant, but you should expect to spend no more than $20.

From there, take a stroll around Pau Castle to learn about the history of the French Royal Family for a measly $8 per person. You’ll work up an appetite exploring the vast rooms on your guided tour.

When you’re ready for lunch, head over to Chloee, a small French café that serves the best tea and cakes in town. The place is typically packed wall to wall. A small lunch will cost you less than $20.

For a taste of what living in Pau is like, take an afternoon stroll along the Boulevard des Pyrenees. The walkway provides an extensive view of the mountains and is home to numerous shops and cafes to visit. The walk is free, but you’ll likely find yourself spending money along the way. Prepare to bring about $20 with you.

Finally, finish off with a dinner of lamb or tuna at the popular Le Majestic. As the name implies, the restaurant is a little upscale so expect to spend close to $30 a plate.
