Start the day with breakfast at the Arcosati community in the beautiful deserts of Arizona. Enjoy a continental breakfast buffet, which includes vegan and vegetarian options, for only $5.
Take a tour of the Arcosanti educational and cultural community. Tours leave daily and include a suggested $10 donation. Explore the site’s unique architecture and Cosanti artist galleries.
Stop for lunch a Postino Café and order Hannah’s Field Salad for $9.75. This hearty salad includes kale, quinoa, Fuji apple, apricot, toasted almonds, pecorino stagionato and pickled red onion with apple cider-mustard vinaigrette.
Enjoy one of Arizona’s most unique attractions, The Desert Botanical Gardens. Despite the hefty fee of $22 for adults, this beautiful nature preserve is worth the trip. Peruse the extensive hiking trails, visit the gardens and stop by the latest exhibition or workshop. The garden is open from 8 a.m.–8 p.m., April through October, and 7 a.m.–8 p.m., September through May.
Have dinner at Citizen Public House. This restaurant and bar serves mouthwatering, inventive cuisine and offers an extensive drink menu. Try the decadent truffle grilled cheese for $12. This comforting sandwich includes white truffle-scented mashed potato, Emmental, melted onion, French bread and simple field greens. Finish off the meal with a Citi-Zen Cocktail —Absolut Pear vodka, Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur, house-made sweet and sour, rock candy and lemon twist — or take home a bag of Tracey Dempsey’s Original Bacon Brittle for $10.
