It doesn’t have the name brand appeal of EDC or TomorrowWorld, but if you’re looking for one of the best North American festivals dedicated to electronic music’s underground, look no further than Decibel Festival.
Decibel might have started in 2004, but it’s not trying to imitate the extravagance of larger festivals. Instead, it relies on a tastefully curated lineup spread across the entire city of Seattle, with 95 acts playing a total of 30 showcases at 10 venues including The Showbox, Neumos and The Crocodile.
The festival has a history of hosting forward-thinking artists like Ritchie Hawtin, Flying Lotus and deadmau5, many of whom participate in seminars and workshops related to electronic music and digital art, co-sponsored by CreativeLive.

There are too many artists to name, but some of this year’s performers include Bonobo, Recondite, Dan Deacon, Julio Bashmore, Autechre and Alan Fitzpatrick, who recorded a special techno set for the festival’s podcast, aiming to give listeners a taste of what it’s like hear him live.
Decibel Festival begins Sept. 23 and lasts for five days. Festival passes are still available, but people have the option of attending individual events at a higher cost. Learn more at dbfestival.com.
