I’ve flown United many times in the past, though my trip to Ireland was my first experience on the airline’s international service. At boarding time, there was confusion at the gate when one agent announced zone four could begin boarding and the gate agent collecting tickets insisted only zones one, two and three could board. Passengers created two lines, which caused several people from zone five to sneak in before zone four. The later passengers to arrive on board had trouble finding space for their carry-on luggage. I noticed a few passengers speak to two separate flight attendants before finding help.
After the pre-flight problems, the rest of my experience was smooth. Shortly after we took off, the flight attendants began dinner service for the overnight flight. I selected the eggplant lasagna instead of BBQ chicken and was happy with my choice. I watched the film Neighbors while enjoying my meal. Something was wrong with either the United-provided headsets or the headset plug because the sound kept cutting out during the movie. I had to adjust the plug for almost the entire film, at one point holding it in place with my thumb. Since I wanted to rest before my busy day upon landing, I slept instead of playing around with the headset anymore.
I slept peacefully for most of the flight, waking up just in time for breakfast service. I ate the croissant with butter and jam
Overall my first experience flying United’s international service was positive. I’m sure this won’t be my last time flying the airline.
