When theme parks like Disneyland and Dorney Park start to lose their spark, it’s time to visit more outlandish adventure parks. From quaint miniature villages to parks dedicated to sex education, there are theme parks to suit every taste.
Visit Bekonscot, a miniature model railroad and village, just outside of London for a charming afternoon. The park depicts a scaled-down version of England in the 1930s and included beautifully manicured gardens. Bekonscot Model Village and Railway first opened in 1929 and is the world’s oldest and original model village.
In England, visitors can spend the afternoon at Dickens World a theme park focused on the author, Charles Dickens. Dickens World includes a reconstructed Victorian English village, which mimics the settings of Dickens’ greatest works. The theme park also includes aptly named rides, such as the Great Expectations Boat Ride, which takes visitors on a dark, winding journey that mimic’s Pip’s travels in the novel Great Expectations.
For a more risqué experience, visit Love Land, the sex education theme park in South Korea’s Jeju Island. According to Mental Floss, the park opened in 2004 to provide newlywed couples with a crash course in intimacy. The park is exclusive to those 18 and older and has become a popular attraction for newlyweds since its opening in 2004.
Clearly, there are theme parks for every interest. From Hello Kitty’s Puroland to Ferrari World in the United Arab Emirates, these parks provide novel experiences and make great travel stories.
