With the upcoming release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the final film in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, set to arrive in theaters next month, Air New Zealand offers fans the chance to vacation like a hobbit with unique vacations to New Zealand featuring visits to official sites used in the filming of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.
Available for travel through Dec. 8, the vacations include round-trip air transportation from Los Angeles to select destinations in New Zealand as well as hotel accommodations from $3,489 per person.
For a truly immersive experience, the 17-day Unexpected Journey invites travelers to experience the world of Frodo and Gandalf with an itinerary packed with visits to locations featured prominently in the beloved films and New Zealand’s most stunning attractions. The vacation traces the Hobbit trail with a variety of unique stops, including a stay at Matamata, a sheep farm-turned-Shire, and a tour of the Hobbiton movie set that served as the home base for Frodo and his furry-footed friends; a stop in Tongariro National Park to see the background for Mordor and Mount Doom; and a tour in Wellington that takes visitors to some of the locations used in the films.
