Catholic Charities USA was founded in 1910 at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Since its inception, the group has opened agencies nationwide under the common mission to serve and advocate. Every year, the agencies provide service to more than 9 million people.
Catholic Charities USA’s goal is to help reduce poverty in the United States. The organization advocates for poverty reduction programs at the federal level and supports local agencies providing services to those in need. In addition to its poverty relief efforts, Catholic Charities USA responds to disasters like earthquakes, floods and fires. The organization’s presence was vital during such disasters across the country including the September 11th attacks, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Gulf Coast oil spill and Superstorm Sandy. Agencies provide emergency food, shelter, direct financial assistance and counseling support.
How can you help? Visit the Catholic Charities website and search for an agency near you. Sign up to receive updates. If you would rather make a monetary contribution, donate directly.
