Now this is something straight out of Star Trek. Waverly Labs recently acquired funding through Indiegogo for their Pilot Translation Earpiece, said to translate languages in real time. That means you’ll be able to have conversations with people overseas without having to understand a word they’re saying.
The theory behind it is simple: Two users will each wear separate earpieces powered by Bluetooth technology and when they speak the other user will hear their words translated into their own language right into their ear. Sounds great, right? Pilot also comes with an accompanying app, which will be used to choose the languages being spoken and translated. As of now it would seem the device is only capable of translating Spanish, French, Italian and English, but the developers promised more languages with future releases.

Pilot comes in three different colors — red, white and black — as well as an additional earpiece used to wirelessly stream music when you’re not having conversations with foreign friends. Developers say the device lags a little upon use, though that’s likely to change down the road. Either way, this is an amazing way to communicate with people you’d never have the chance and the implications for the future are seemingly endless.
The device is expected to launch September 2016 and you can reserve your pair today on the Waverly Labs website.
