Women’s History Month is celebrated in March. This annual commemoration, highlighting women’s contributions to society, was designated by Congress in 1987. While we all might not be able to gather together to celebrate this year, there are still plenty of ways to honor women this month and beyond.
Read
Whether you prefer fiction or non-fiction, take time to read works by women authors. We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Becoming by Michelle Obama are great options.
Watch
There are numerous videos, documentaries and other films to stream this month. PBS offers a guide with a selection of content across many interests. Streaming services like Hulu and Netflix have film and documentary options like RBG and Knock Down the House.
Donate
If you’re able, donating time or money to a charitable organization supporting women is a great way to honor Women’s History Month. Global Fund for Women, Girls Who Code, Dress for Success and She Should Run offer donation and volunteering opportunities. If there is a cause important to you, seek out organizations supporting that cause and donate your time or money there.
Attend
Falling in Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day is March 8. In honor of this day, attend the 2021 Virtual International Women’s Day Summit. The 90-minute program will be held March 4 and March 8 and features three panels with speakers including former U.S. Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice.
Other virtual events and discussions will be held throughout the month. Check out this listing of events covering a variety of topics.
