March 1 marked the 150th anniversary of President Ulysses S. Grant signing the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act, establishing the park and stating the land would be “hereby reserved and withdrawn from settlement, occupancy or sale…and dedicated and set apart as a public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.”
There are numerous cultural, historical, nature-focused and adventurous activities inside and outside of the park.
To honor the anniversary, consider taking part in some of these activities at Yellowstone National Park:
- Take a guided tour of the park, including a stop at Old Faithful Geyser
- Book a stay at an authentic dude ranch
- Drive the Grand Loop, a 140-mile stretch that connects Yellowstone’s most famous sites
- Attend a rodeo show in Cody, Wyoming, the Rodeo Capital of the World
- Visit the Museum of the National Park Ranger
- Go on a wildlife watching tour at Lamar Valley or Mammoth Hot Springs
- Raft on the Shoshone River
- Camp at the newly renovated Fishing Bridge RV Park
- Rent a kayak and explore Yellowstone Lake
- Learn more about the region’s history at the Meeteetse Museums
