Two friends and I recently visited Virginia wine country for a mini-bachelorette weekend to celebrate my friend’s upcoming wedding. A bachelorette weekend wouldn’t be complete without brunch. We decided to grab brunch at West End Wine Bar & Pub on our last day.
We arrived in time for our reservation and the hostess took us directly to our table on the back patio. Shortly after we were seated, our waitress came with water and to talk about the menu. Bottomless mimosas are available during Sunday brunch, but we decided to order one mimosa each and coffees while we perused the menu. As is not uncommon while dining outdoors, a fly landed in my friend’s coffee. One of the bussers came over and speedily replaced her drink.
After much debate, we all decided to order the same meal: crab cake benedict with a side salad instead of fries. As we waited for our entrées, we enjoyed the scenery. The restaurant is located directly next to a beautiful golf course.
Our entrées arrived and we were all pleased with our choice. The meaty crab cake sat atop toasted brioche with poached eggs, creole hollandaise and Cajun dill pickles. I find poached eggs hit or miss, and I thoroughly enjoyed these with the whites cooked through but a runny yolk. Though the benedict wasn’t too heavy, we all agreed ordering salad instead of fries was the right choice.
We decided to end our meal on a sweet note and split the chocolate torte sundae for dessert. The dense and rich torte came topped with chocolate ice cream, chocolate ganache, house-made cherries and fresh whipped cream. It was the perfect size for three to split.
The location, service and food are more than enough reason to visit the fantastic West End Wine Bar & Pub for brunch or any meal.
